Forgive me for keeping you waiting again, Governor Abiodun begs journalists

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has begged journalists for keeping them waiting behind the scheduled time of a press conference which took place in his Okemosan office, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Penpushing reports that, the Governor had on Tuesday requested for a press conference for 6pm to give update on the ongoing protest against police brutality, but showed up at about 8pm, a period of two hours behind the scheduled time.

The Governor on arrival and before reading his speech, profusely apologized to the journalists, explaining that the delay was not his making, explaining that  workload was responsible, stressing that, it was not deliberate to keep them(journalists) waiting more than necessary

Penpushing further reports that, he said it was not his character to always keep late, adding that, he was busy articulating his speech for a better presentation, and said, ’I am sorry for keeping you late again. We are in this together. I was articulating the address. I thank you for your patience’

The Governor in his speech, however, requested the youth groups in the ongoing protest  to appoint leaders amongst themselves for a meeting with him for further dialogue, stressing that government  will be reviewing developments on a 24-hourly basis and will not hesitate to announce stringent measures as may be considered necessary.

Penpushing also reports that, Abiodun  emphasised that, his administration would not fold arms, to witness state of anarchy, and appealed to all parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders and indeed all stakeholders to rein their children and wards to avoid any act that may breach public peace or bring them into confrontation with the law enforcement agencies

‘I must emphasise that we cannot fold our arms and let the state descend into anarchy. No right is absolute. In exercising our rights, we must respect the rights of others. There cannot be a better tomorrow, if we destroy today and the foundation being laid for tomorrow’

‘Let me warn that Ogun State will not be conducive to anyone who may want to test the resolve of government to provide security or those who may want to come from other states to foment trouble in our dear State. The security agencies have been directed to ensure full compliance with the measures announced to ensure security of lives and properties’, he emphasised.

‘Therefore, I appeal to all parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders and indeed all stakeholders to rein their children and wards to avoid any act that may breach public peace or bring them into confrontation with the law enforcement agencies’.
