Our Very Dear Commissioner Sir,

MRS. FASANSI ROTIMI: A CASE OF GENDER BASED VIOLENCE, BATTERY, ASSAULT AND ATTEMPTED MURDER AGAINST ONE MR. ADEMOLA TAIWO

Community Development Initiatives (CDI) is a Nigerian civil society organization with a vision of a Nigeria where social justice informs public decision making. Our Mission is “to be an enabling organization, supporting institutions that facilitate the socio-economic development and self-reliance of the poor”. Our commitment to sound health, peace, human rights and human promotion is also a witness to the Gospel when it is sign of concern for persons and it is directed towards Integral Human Development. Our thematic areas include: Democracy, Accountability and Good Governance, Human Rights Empowerment/Legal Aids services, Women and Youth Empowerment, fight against drug abuse, Orphan and Vulnerable/family program, Public health and human trafficking.

On Friday 26th Friday, 2021 some women from Owu-Ijebu in Ijebu-East Local Government of Ogun State led by the President Ijebu-East Local Government National Council for Women Society (NCWS) Comrade (Mrs.) T. A. Adelana and the Otun Iyalode of Owu-Ijebu Chief (Mrs.) Ranti Oduwole led about thirty women to our office to complain a case of physical assault battery against one Mr. AdemolaTaiwo from Owu who was accused to have been molesting one Mrs. Rotimi Fasansi (60 years) for an upward of three consecutive days and conduct likely to cause breach of peace in Ijebu East

Upon this complaint, our organization Community Development Initiatives (CDI) in conjunctions with Eric Adenaiya Foundation (EAF) and Grassroots Development and Documentation Initiative (GDDI) did our investigations and consultations to address the matter after persuading and appealing to the women that justice will be served in this matter. The victim, Mrs. Fasansi Rotimi was seriously battered by Mr. Ademola Taiwo and his wife using horse whips on Wednesday 24th February to Friday 26th February, 2021 and later admitted at the Otunba Olumayowa General Hospital, Ijebu-Ife on Friday 26th February for medical treatment paid for by the Chiefs and Baales from Owu when the woman collapsed at the Olowu’s Palace. Curiously, the DPO of Ijebu-Ife Police Division ordered that the woman be arrested at the hospital on Monday and detained in the Police station till around 8pm after which he detained eight others who are the victim’s children and friends that went to complain to the DPO after the victim was released that Mr. AdemolaTaiwo was bragging around the town that he will beat the woman time and time over again as he claimed to be a friend and informant of the Police, and this the community members assumed to be true with the accused was reported to be drinking beer with the Policemen at the Station and the refusal of the Police to arrest the abuser but rather arresting a victim of Gender Based Violence right from the hospital bed

We contacted the Kabiyesi of Owu-Ijebu, H.R.H. Oba Engr. M. Adesina who confirmed the incident and stated that the DPO seems to be compromised from the way he spoke with him on phone and acted. We have no reason to dispute this as he put up same attitude when we called him on phone yesterday before the victim could be released

Kindly use your good offices to investigate this matter and see that justice is served in this matter by prosecution in the Law Court. We have implicit confidence in you that you will act promptly and justly

You have the assurances of my highest regards and cooperation

 Yours Faithfully,

Alhaji Akinlagun Agoro (Executive Director Grassroots Development and Documentation Initiative)

Prince Akinlagun, President/CEO Eric Adenaiya Foundation
