Folashade Kokumo, wife of Commissioner of Police becomes Egba High Chief
The Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso has approved the appointment of Folashade Kokumo, wife of Edo State Commissioner of Police as the new Otun Iyalode of the kingdom, with installation date to be announced in due course.
Penpushing reports that, Iyalode of Oke-Ona, Iyalode Alaba Lawson presented the new chief to the monarch and his chiefs at the palace on Sunday, a ceremony which had in attendance the three Oueens (Oloris) of the traditional ruler and other wellwishers.
The incoming Oke-Ona High Chief was accompanied by some of her family members which include: Mrs Matilda Alalade and Hajia Kikelomo Ajayi, as well as number of Egba Christians Chiefs and other friends who dressed gorgeously in white attire.
Penpushing further reports, Lawson, who is also the Iyalode of Yorubaland, while presenting Kokumo recalled that, the monarch gave her the task of getting a successor, being the sitting Otun Iyalode and now upgraded to the Iyalode of the town.
The Iyalode said, following the monarch directive, she consulted God to give her directive, explaining that the choice of Kokumo was divine, and having also found her of good characters and competence to contribute her quota to the developmental growth of the town.
‘The choice of Folashade came when I consulted the Lord after Kabiyesi gave me the directive. Her name continued to ruminate in my mind after I spoke with God. I have also known her for over 40 years and can vouch for her. Her choice was divine’, Lawson emphasized.
Penpushing also reports that, Lawson who doubles as the Iyalode of Egbaland, affirmed that the incoming Otun Iyalode is pride of Oke-Ona Egbaland, adding, ‘today 25th October, we hereby come to present the new chief’
The Oke-Ona Chiefs who were presented at the presentation commended the choice of Kokumo and warmly accepted her to be part of them, stating that they are convinced that she would positively contribute meaningfully to the growth of the kingdom.
Penpushing reports that the chiefs advised her to learn from the good work, competence and characters of her predecessor, expressing optimism of feeling her impact as she comes on board, with assurance that they would all support her.
The new Otun Iyalode in her remarks, recalled that, over three decades ago when the monarch was installed, she was then an Information Officer at Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State, and going down memory lane, said at the installation she was optimistic that one day she would be a high chief in the land
Penpushing further reports that, Kokumo expressed appreciation to God for using the monarch in attaining her desire and ambition of becoming a high chief, to pave way for her in contributing positively to her community, and pledged that, she would not disappoint the town.
The traditional ruler in his speech welcomed the new Otun Iyalode and appreciated the Oke-Ona Chiefs for their consent in approving the appointment, stressing that, the chiefs have the final say on who becomes who in the kingdom
Penpushing also reports that, the renowned monarch confirmed that, he gave Lawson the task of getting a competent and reliable successor having being promoted and upgraded to the Iyalode of Oke-Ona Egba.
The Oke-Ona Egba Chiefs in attendance at the events include; Dr Jiboku(Akinfimojoye), Chief(Mrs) Yemisi Alogi(Iyaloja), Chief Samson Ogunwale(Oluwo) Chief Sulaiman Jolaoso(Balogun) and Chief Kayode Sobande(Akeweje)
Meanwhile, the palace as at the time of filing this reports disclosed that a letter for Kokumo appointment had being signed and approved by the palace, which is the constituted authority, adding that a date for her installation will be made known in due course
