Federal Road Safety Corps commences full investigation into auto crash involving Anthony Joshua

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command has commenced full investigation into auto crash involving world renowned boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway resulting death of two people, while he(Joshua) escaped death but sustained injuries

Penpushing reports that the Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin made this known in a statement explaining that preliminary investigation showed that the accident was as a result of overspeeding and wrongful overtaking from the right-hand side, resulting in a collision with a stationary vehicle.

The Commander who stated that the crash occurred at Sinoma axis of the busy road and involved two vehicles and a total number of five occupants adding that two members of Joshua’s security details were killed and their bodies already deposited in the morgue as at the time of filing this report

“Preliminary reports indicate that the crash involved two vehicles and a total of five (5) occupants. Two (2) persons lost their lives, one (1) person sustained injuries, while two (2) others were unhurt. It was further confirmed that the injured victim is popular professional boxer, Anthony Joshua, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries”.

Penpushing further reports that the statement stated that the boxer was promptly evacuated to an undisclosed hospital by security operatives attached to him, adding that operatives of the command, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, carried out rescue operations, traffic control, and clearance at the scene to prevent secondary crashes.

“Preliminary investigation attributed the cause of the crash to speeding and wrongful overtaking from the right-hand side, resulting in a collision with a stationary vehicle”, the statement reads.

Penpushing also reports that the statement emphasised that Fasakin said has directed a comprehensive investigation to be conducted and establish full circumstances surrounding the crash in line with the extant traffic laws

“The Sector Commander, FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Corps Commander Akinwumi O. Fasakin, has directed that a comprehensive investigation be conducted to establish full circumstances surrounding the crash and ensure appropriate action in line with extant traffic laws’, the statement said.

Penpushing reports that the Corps Commander, however, cautioned motorists to avoid speeding and dangerous overtaking, especially along major highways, and to always prioritize safety.
