Fans protest controversial death of Nigerian musician, Mohbad, demands justice

Hundreds of fans of the late hip pop musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who died in a controversial manner on Tuesday trooped out to the major streets of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital to mourn the deceased.
Penpushing reports that the mourners dressed in black dresses and carrying various placards in solidarity, accompanied by police team to avert any break down of law and order called on the Nigerian Government to unveil circumstances leading to the demise of the 27-year-old musician
The mourners majority of them youths who started the peaceful protest from Panseke area of the town which lasted for hours and caused traffic jam, were seen holding candles as a sign of the sad incident, and way to bid him (Mohbad) farewell.
Penpushing further reports that the fans carrying placards with inscriptions such as #JusticeForMohbad, #Who off Light, #End to Malian record’, among others were demanding justice for the death of the famous artist.
The mourners in an interview expressed shock and lamentation over the sudden death of Mohbad, which they affirmed generated lot of emotions across the country, and pleaded with the authorities to do the needful to unravel the incident.
Penpushing also reports that the protesters noted that the burial of the musician in a hurry manner was suspicious, stressing that the death has caused quite a storm in the entertainment industry, with a lot of people believing his exit was not natural
The mourners posited that some believe he was killed while others think he died as a result of depression, while in other quarters it was believe that Mohbad died after being struck with juju, known as black magic powers
Penpushing reports that the mourners were also of the opinion that Mohab’s death has raised questions about the culture of thuggery, impunity and disregard for law, which have crept into Nigeria’s flourishing music industry.
The musician it is recalled died last week Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday in Ikorodu, while his death has attracted concerns, as some alleged the owner of Marlian Records and singer, Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley as likely principal suspect on the controversial death
Penpushing further reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has, however, ordered a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of Mohbad, to be conducted by the Lagos State Police Command.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi made this known in a statement, explaining that the direct and urgent directive was issued during a brief and crucial discussion at the Police Airwing Hangar, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday.
Penpushing also reports that the statement added that Egbetokun tasked the Commissioner of Police to quickly and effectively unravel the truth behind the tragedy as there have been understandable concerns and speculations surrounding the circumstances of his untimely demise.
The police boss equally urged any family members or close associates of the deceased possessing valuable information pertaining to this case to come forward and cooperate with the Lagos State Police Command to ensure that justice is served and the circumstances surrounding his (Mohbad) demise are thoroughly examined.
Penpushing reports that in swift response the Lagos State Police Command has initiated the commencement of full-scale criminal investigation into the case, having constituted a Special Investigation Team within the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to coordinate the investigation.
The Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement said the Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa has a raised a team which comprises seasoned homicide detectives, and tasked them to aggregate all allegations, suspicions and insinuations from various sources on the death of the singer.
The statement added that the team is to undertake a professional, diligent and timely investigation with a view to establishing facts, clearing all doubts and ensuring that justice is manifestly served through a meticulous process that will deploy all requisite protocols (which may include exhumation), as well as technical and scientific tools that are vital to the detailed investigation of homicide allegations of this nature.

Penpushing also reports that Hundeyin said in aid of this initiative, the Lagos State Government has pledged its total support to the Special Investigation Team in all ways required to guarantee a diligent investigative exercise.
The statement stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave this assurance while consulting with the Commissioner of Police earlier on how best to ensure that the case is expeditiously investigated and justice delivered promptly.
Penpushing reports that the command made an appeal to the deceased’s family, friends, business associates or anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to share same with the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department on 08036885727 and to optimally support the Police in the drive for a conclusive investigation of the case.
The statement made available to journalists added that Lagos State Police Command assured that progress of the investigation will, as much as legally and professionally permissible, and wil be shared with the general public accordingly.
