However, the elder brother of the deceased, Olajide Olatoye on Thursday at the lying in state for the slained federal lawmaker, which was held at House of Chief, Agodi, Ibadan, stated that information reaching him was that Governor Ajimobi in conjunction with some members of the Oyo State House of Assembly were facilitating the release of some suspects arrested in connection with the unfortunate assassination incident.
Hear him ‘Governor Abiola Ajimobi should desist from facilitating the release of the killers of my brother, let justice prevailed, Oyo State Government should remove hand in the investigation of the incident and allow the perpetrators of the evil face the wrath of the law, been a serving Oyo State House of Assembly member does not means that you are untouchable.”
Penpushing further reports that, in similar vein, younger brother of the late politician, Dotun Olatoye said despite all the support Olatoye’s family had been receiving from both the Federal and State Governments since the incident happened the government still finds it difficult to find out the killers of his elder brother and made them to face wrath of the law.
The younger brother pointed out that there is need to value human life because human life is very precious, adding that how will a serving federal law maker be killed without proper investigation and arrest of the perpetrators?
“Sugar was a great icon and the generalissimo of the masses, he has paid all his tributes while on earth, he was a man of peace, even when he lost an election, he remain calm”,Olatoye stated
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Olagunju Ojo earlier in his tribute said that the death of the late lawmaker shows that Oyo State has lost an illustrious son that will not be forgotten, adding that the deceased was a monumental and unique while alive, noting that no one ever expected him to die like that.
“In life, it is not how far, but how well, on behalf of the 8th assembly, we wish you eternal life and journey mercy.”
Also speaking at the event was a member of the Oyo State House of Assemby, Hon Segun Olaleye who called on the Olatoye’s family not to take vengeance on anybody, adding that how to take care of the deceased wife and children should be their concern.
“Sugar told me in my dream that no one should take revenge on his behalf, but his wife and children should be well taken care of”, he said, and also promised to sponsor two of the deceased children to University level.
Penpushing also reports that, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi has denied the accusation, and tasked the deceased family to go and get their information right, as he would not encourage criminals to go scot free if established to be in the know of crimes
The Special Adviser to Governor on Media and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji explained that if a citizen of a State is killed, it is not the Governor that will say that people that are responsible for the killing should not be published.
“I think they should go and get their information right. The Governor is not privy to that kind of information, and he will not support sweeping such a case under the carpet, so, if people are saying the Governor is trying to facilitate release of the principal suspect and others, it is not true’.
Penpushing further reports that, he explained that the Governor has vowed that those who perpetrated the act would be brought to justice, and he has never said anything contrary to what he said then, adding that what the family should do now is to tell the police to do their job the way it should not done.
“I don’t know the kind of bold statement they are expecting the government to make. The Governor has already directed the security agencies to fish out the culprits, if the police are facing any challenge in their investigation, they are supposed to get across to the Governor, and tell him their suggestions. The Governor will now take it up from there. The Governor will never be a party to a situation whereby an investigation being done by a statutory body will be compromised. The Governor will never do anything that is against the law.”
