Penpushing further reports that the sources added that the plotters were waiting for a day when all of their targets would be in the country, having relied on information on their movement by collaborators within the presidency.

“They have people inside the Villa who monitor the movements of these officials. The plan was to kill them at the same time and install a military government’, the source disclosed.

Penpushing reports that the source added that the plot began to unravel in late September 2025 after an unnamed military officer with direct knowledge of the coup contacted the then Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede.

The source said the officer reportedly disclosed the scheme, explaining that he feared being implicated as an accessory to treason if he failed to alert authorities, hence, the military authorities and State Security Service (SSS) embarked on intelligence gathering which bust the plan.

Penpushing further reports that the arrested suspects were detained in the underground holding facility of the Defence Intelligence Agency, as investigation later revealed the role of individual suspects
