Explosion at Bayelsa state secretariat
The Bayelsa State Secretariat complex was on Wednesday enveloped by suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which brought tension in Yenagoa, State capital, while a suspect was arrested.
Penpushing reports that the Bayelsa State Police Command Public Relations Officer Musa Mohammed confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit’s operatives, upon arrival, contained the situation.
The police spokesperson who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Edebor, immediately led the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Special Drone Unit, and other Tactical Teams to the scene.

Penpushing further reports that he stated that the area was immediately cordoned off, and upon detailed search, one unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED)was identified by Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) operatives, which was rendered safe.
The police image maker in the statement said no lives were lost, and no property was destroyed in the explosion, disclosing that a 60-year-old man was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
“One Pentecost Elijah, M, 60-year-old from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State, was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident. He is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, and upon conclusion, the suspect will be charged in court’, he said.
Penpushing also reports that Mohammed assured that the situation was now under control and that normalcy had been restored at the secretariat, however, as at the time of filing this report the Commissioner for Information in Bayelsa, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, was yet to make any officials statement on the issue
