EX-CONVICT ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY
The Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident said the suspect with his accomplice who is now on the run committed the crime at Divine Wisdom community in Iyesi area of the town.
He said, ‘His arrest followed a distress call received by Police at Onipanu Division that an Okada rider was attacked at Divine Wisdom community in Iyesi area and his bike was snatched away’.
He said, consequently, the Divisional Police Officer Onipanu Division Sangobiyi Johnson quickly led his anti-robbery team to the scene, and with the assistance of the Community Development Association, (CDA), members apprehended the suspect.
Penpushing reports that,Oyeyemi said his(suspect) accomplice escaped, adding that further search led to the recovery of the snatched Honda motorcycle.
‘On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and his fleeing accomplice pretended as passengers when they stopped the Okada man, and they hit him on the head with a sharp object which made him to be unconscious before they dispossessed him of the motorcycle’.
The Command spokesman said the suspect further disclosed that he has been convicted for similar offence and just came out of prison, adding that the victim Umaru Hassan has been taken to the hospital where he is responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered a serious manhunt for the escaped accomplice; he equally directed that the arrested suspect be transferred to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, for discreet investigation.
