ENUGU RESIDENTS PROTEST GRUESOME MURDER OF WOMAN IN FARMLAND
The husband of the woman sources said raised an alarm following sudden disappearance of his wife, and a search party was organised to look out for her, in the farmland, but her wheelbarrow was found without her traces.
Penpushing further reports intensive search led to discovery of her mutilated corpse dumped by Asaba river, a development which attracted a rushed to the scene, by number of residents, majority who were youths of the town
“We found several machete cuts on her body including the head and neck with her pant removed and we are suspecting that she must have been attacked and raped by bandits in the bush,” a native of Nchatancha said.
The shocking development led to a violent protest in Nchatancha and Obinagu communities on Thursday as youths from the areas who were extremely angered by the murder of the woman took to the streets.
Penpushing also reports that, the protesters marched through the streets and blocked the Enugu -Abakaliki highway at Eke Obinagu market area and Annunciation Hospital junction, burning tyres and beating people including travelers.
The protesters damaged number of vehicles, while the youths threatened to go after the bandits wherever they reside within the community to revenge the woman’s death.
Penpushing reports that, security operatives from Emene Police Division were said to have brought the situation under control and later took the corpse of the woman to Annunciation Hospital mortuary in Emene.
When contacted, the spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said the command has already commenced investigations into the murder of the woman,adding that the Commissioner of Police Suleiman Balarabe has directed full scale investigations into the incident.
He said: “Following the report of the incident of alleged murder case of a woman inside a farm land at Nchatancha community in Emene, Enugu State received by the Command today (Thursday), the Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Balarabe has directed full scale investigations with a view to establishing what actually happened and persons involved and their motives amongst others’.
“The command further advises members of the public to continue to be law abiding and avoid any thing that will truncate the existing peace and security in the state as security operatives will leave no stone unturned towards unmasking those behind the dastardly act’.
“Meanwhile, the corpse of the said deceased woman has been deposited at the mortuary of the Annunciation hospital for autopsy’, the police spokesman said.
Penpushing further reports that, in a related development, a former Local Government Chairman of Nkanu East in Enugu reported the kidnap of his daughter, Miss Kosiso Chukwu Anioma, adding that the daughter ‘left the house for Newhaven market around 7am ,after waiting for hours, they called her line but no nobody is picking and up till now ,no communication’
