Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Phillip buried in 227 year old royal vault

The remains of Prince Philip husband of Queen Elizabeth 11 were on Saturday permanently laid to rest in the 227 year old  royal vault of St George’s Chapel after a funeral service led by the Archbishop of Canterbury

Penpushing reports that the deceased funeral held at Windsor Castle was under strict compliance of coronavirus guidelines and protocols as the widow sat alone  and dressed in black and with her head bowed in prayer.

The death of Duke of Edinburgh at 99 on April 9 was reported to have robbed the widow of the husband, she described as her strength, as the service was beamed live on television, a final honour  steeped in military and royal tradition.

Penpushing further reports that in strict compliance of coronavirus protocols only 30 people were allowed inside the castle’s St George’s Chapel, which include the queen, her four children and her eight grandchildren

The deceased grandson Prince William, was seen glancing back at the vault as he left his pew, while the widow during the funeral procession was driven in a car, and that  was her first appearance in public since the death of her husband.

Penpushing reports that the coffin draped with the deceased personal standard was driven in a green military Land Rover Defender, as the widow and the children; Prince Philip – Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and Prince Edward  walked behind the Land Rover.

The procession were led by Earl of Wessex, Prince Harry, Peter Phillips, Prince William, Vice Admiral Tim Lawrence, and the Earl of Snowdon, and for the eight-minute procession, a gun was fired by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from the East Lawn of Windsor Castle.

The coffin of the late Phillip was placed on a catafalque on a marble slab and lowered into the vault by an electric motor, while record has it that the vault was created between 1804 and 1810 for George III, who died in 1820 and is one of three kings buried there.

Penpushing also reports that, the other two are George IV and William IV, while at the ceremony horns were played, and the choir sang the national anthem, “God Save the Queen’, as the coffin was lowered down.
