ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY LOSES N2.5BILLION MONTHLY TO VANDALS, SAYS COMMERCIAL MANAGER

The Commercial Officer lamented that various electrical installations in some parts of the country were being either vandalised or stolen by some unidentified persons, noting that the situation is now at alarming rate.

He emphasized that, the worrisome development was responsible for the loss of about N2.5 billion monthly by the company and epileptic power supply in several parts of the nation,and  expressed concern that number of   communities in many part of the country are in blackout for years following the theft and vandalism of either their transformers, cables or other electrical gadgets.

He however appealed to electricity customers to always guide electrical installations in their domains jealously, against vandalism and theft, and also warned Nigerians using electricity without payment and those tampering with meters to desist from the act to improve the nation’s economy.

The Electricity Distribution boss reiterated further that the company is working round the clock towards ensuring that customers in Kwara State were provided with pre- paid meters.

Also speaking at the event was the Commissioner, Consumer Affairs with Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC),  Moses Argue who said that the commission established the office for electricity providers and customers to solve various challenges.

Penpushing reports that, he however, urged electricity customers in the State to make judicious use of the office for quick and positive response to their complaints.

The programme was attended by many electricity consumers across the 16 local government areas of the state including traditional rulers.
