Electoral commission leadership meets to discuss possible postponement of governorship election
The leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has embarked on a meeting at its headquarters in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as multiple sources hinted that the meeting is called to discuss possible postponement of the proposed Saturday Governorship and Assembly elections
Penpushing reports that, the sources added that the meeting was called to address the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) inability to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machines ahead of poll due to a court order.
The rumoured postponement as at the time of filing this report was yet to be confirmed, while the National Commissioner for Voter Education, Festus Okoye was yet to respond to enquiry by journalists to ascertain the authenticity of the unconfirmed speculations
Penpushing further reports that the planned March 11, 2023 election is the second round of the 2023 General election that started with the Presidential and National Assembly election conducted on 25 February.
The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and their respective candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi’s request to inspect all sensitive materials used in the conduct of the recent presidential election.
Penpushing also reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and LP have opposed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring the Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu as the winner of the elections, and called for fresh elections.
