Ejikeme academic result saga: Nigerian lawmakers set up committee to probe allegation of fake result
The House of Representatives has set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged manipulation of the controversial Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) results of Mmesoma Ejikeme, and urged the board to stay any punitive actions against the student.
Penpushing reports the federal lawmakers position followed the adoption of a motion by Hon Awaji-Inombek Abiante representing Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Bayelsa State at plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.
The lawmaker who raised the motion argued that Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, Anambra, sat the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and claimed to have scored 362.
Penpushing further reports that Abiante emphasized that the student came out to defend herself, that she actually printed the result from the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) website and had been a brilliant child all through her nursery and secondary education.
The lawmaker noted that the examination board, however, disputed all her claims, saying she falsified her results, while Abiante further in his argument posited that Ejikeme came first in all the examinations she had been taking before the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Penpushing also reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker stated that in view of the previous academic records of brilliance of the student, she was not capable of manipulating her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
The lawmaker added that cognisant of the fact that uploading or downloading results of examinations or polls electronically, in Nigeria, glitches can occur at any time, hence the need to establish the facts before any blames.
Penpushing further reports that he observed that the Public Relations Officer of the examination board had earlier alleged that some of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) candidates were parading fake scores to get undue advantage from the public, hence the need to investigate the allegation.
