Egbas resolve to tackle youths mad rush for illicit acquisition of wealth in Nigeria

The Egbas of South-West of Nigeria have resolved to tackle headlong, the prevalent mad rush for illicit acquisition of wealth and ostentatious living prominent among youths through various form of vices such as ritual killings and kidnapping among others.

Penpushing reports that, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo made this known on Monday at a press conference ahead of the 35th Lisabi Festival, adding that the theme of this year festival is ;Youth Inclusiveness: An emerging Reality in Socio-Economic Development of Egbaland’

The royal father  explained that the theme was carefully selected bearing in mind the pride of place occupied by the teeming youths in the scheme of things in the socio-economic development of Egbaland, stressing that the youths are the core and nerve of active generation

‘Another important reason for the choice of this year’s theme is the prevalent mad rush for illicit acquisition of wealth and ostentatious living prominent among our children and youth theses days through various form of vices’

Penpushing further reports that, the monarch noted that the vices include ritual killings, kidnapping, human body parts and organ trafficking  and merchandize , internet fraud, drugs deal and abuse, adding that it is high time this menace is addressed before it gets out of hands

‘In order to mitigate this negative trend, desecration and aberration to the richly endowed culture and norms of the land coupled with urgent need to restore human dignity and save our society from imminent collapse, a proactive measure of this magnitude is inenvitable’, Gbadebo said

The traditional ruler disclosed that, in tune with this thematic trust, array of youth-centred programmes dominate the content of the edition of the festival, which include quiz competition, football competition, traditional wrestling, scout camp fire and drama youths among others

‘We are convinced that the thematic focus this year, would translate to remarkable advancement and far reaching socio-economic development ,re0 orientation and  redemption of our numerous youth on the verge off imminent’, he stated

Penpushing also reports that, Gbadebo disclosed that the composer of Egba anthem, Rev Josiah Ransome-Kuti who is the grandfather of the renowned late musician, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti  is to be honoured as the hero of the year at the ceremony scheduled to hold between February 28- March 6, 2022
