Egba Chiefs raise alarm over looming bloodbath in community over leadership tussle

The Emere Council of Chiefs in lkopa, located in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed fear over impending bloodbath in the community over leadership tussle, and therefore appealed Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently address the issues before it gets out of hands

Penpushing reports that, Chief Monsuru Bankole in company of other chiefs of the community raised the alarm and appeal at a press conference held  in Abeokuta, adding that two factional community heads(Baales)  Chief Lateef Kolawole Sanyaolu and  Chief Jimoh Olanrewaju Taiwo are now at loggerhead on who controls  the Bode Olude Emere community.

‘It is urgently imperative for the concerned authorities to look into the Baaleship tussle at Bode Olude Emere Community as two Baales( Chief Lateef Kolawole Sanyaolu, who is the authentic Baale installed and recognized by Emere Council of chiefs led by the Oluwo, Chief Michael Aremu Sobowale and one Chief Jimoh Olanrewaju Taiwo an impostor to the throne’, Bankole said

‘The emergence of two Baales in Bode-Olude started with one Chief Semiu Adisa Akinbile, a self- acclaimed Oluwo of Emere, who was allegedly backed by Alake of Egbaland and Egba Eku Council of Chiefs to install Chief Jimoh Olanrewaju, an impostor to the throne”, the chiefs said

Penpushing further reports that the council backed up their position with a court judgement presented claimed that the appointment of Chief Semiu Adisa Akinbile’s Oluwoship as null and void and lacking basis in law.

‘It will be recalled that Honourable Justice N.O Durojaiye of Ogun State High Court, Ota Judicial Division, sitting in Ilaro had on Wednesday, the 5th of February, 2020 in a legal action instituted in Suit No. AB/242/2017( Between Chief Michael Aremu Sobowale & 2 others Vs Chief Semiu Adisa Akinbile declared that the appointment of Chief Semiu Adisa Akinbile’s Oluwoship as null and void and lacking basis in law’.

“Mr.Semiu Adisa Akinbile was declared by the Honourable Court as a trespassers to the post of Oluwo Emere and was subsequently restrained particularly by the order of the Honourable Court to stop parading himself as Oluwo of Emere and for emphasis the judgement of the Court read thus 1. It is hereby declared that the defendant (I e Chief Semiu Adisa Akinbile) has never been appointed by the Emere Council of Chiefs as Oluwo of Emere Community’.

‘ It is hereby declared that the 1st Claimant (i.e Chief Michael Aremu Sobowale) is the person appointed by the Emere Council of Chiefs as the Oluwo of Emere Community. An order of perpertual injunction restraining the defendant ( i.e Chief Semiu Adisa Akinbile) from continuing parading himself as the Oluwo of Emere Community is hereby granted’.

“Considering the above Judgement of The Honourable Court without subsequent valid stay of execution and appeal from the defendant, it will be illegal for Mr.Semiu Adisa Akinbile to act as Oluwo Emere at the Emere Council of Chiefs, who holds the consenting authority to appoint Baale at Bode-Olude Community, but he is being allegedly backed by the Alake of Egbaland and Egba Eku Council of Chiefs where Oluwo Emere sits as Egba Eku Council of Chiefs member.”

Penpushing also reports that, the council disclosed that following the ugly development it has equally written to Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo to express their worry, with copies sent to security agencies and Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs

” All what have been happening, before we take any steps, We wrote letters to Alake, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Ogun State Police Headquarters, DSS .We were called by the Ministry of LGs and Chieftancy Affairs and they told us that Alake said” whatever saliva he(the monarch) has spit out cannot go back to the mouth”

“Since what the monarch pronounced cannot be reversed, the person Alake chose for us was not the choice of the people of Emere. So, we went to court.  For the past 3 years that we have been on the case, we did not go to the Ogboni’s house until the judgement was delivered in our favour’.

‘When we got to the Ogboni’s house , Alake ordered us to leave Ogboni’s house for Semiu Akinbile and we retorted that the court had delivered judgement in our favor as the rightful occupiers of the Ogboni’s house and since then we have always been there’.

“But we observed that activities happening in Egbaland, in which Emere has to have a seat and say, the person which the court as declared as an impostor, illegal Oluwo has always been representing Emere. Of all the 24 Egba Eku, Emere is number’ 2 as Odofin, Ikopa is the Oluwo Eku. Semiu Akinbile has always been sitting on the seat despite the court judgement, and whenever we get there they always told us that Alake had pronounced Akinbile as the Oluwo’.

‘While Chief Michael Aremu Shobowale is the righful choice of the people of Emere, who had undergone all the rites as Oluwo and the one that the court of law has declared as the authentic Oluwo and occupier of the seat. So, it is in this  view that we appeal to the state Governor and as well as the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland to intervene’, the council emphasized
