Edo state politician narrowly escapes being kidnapped

A politician identified  as Anthony Aluyi,said to be member of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has narrowly escaped being kidnapped by gunmen at the  the popular Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, Edo State Capital.
Penpushing reports that Aluyi  a resident of number 27 Omozogie Road, off Benin Agbor Road, Benin City, was said to have just finished a political  meeting with some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Oredo Ward Youth Wing, when the suspected kidnappers pounced on him.
The source added that youths, in swift response to the attack and in conjuction with members of vigilante within the vicinity quickly mobilized  themselves and engaged the alleged suspected kidnappers in a shoot out which forced the gunmen abandoning their target, and sped off from the scene of the crime, but a member of the vigilante in the process  sustained serious injuries
Penpushing further reports that, an eyewitness who does not want his name in print stated that the suspected  kidnappers were cultists, said to belong to the Vikings Confraternity, or Niger-Delta militants who needed the victim as a bait to get to his fleeing younger brother, over their differences with them some  years ago at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“They made a bold attempt to escape with him, but traffic around the Ramat Bus-Park area was heavy; and that made it possible for the youths to mobilize and catch up with the car used, just some two or three miles away”, the eyewitness said
Penpushing also reports that, the source  explained,  that the suspected kidnappers’ motive  was to seize  the target and keep him hostage, as ploy to identify the true details of his brother’s location; before demanding for ransom,adding that the suspects managed to escape, leaving one person injured
The police team, the source added was  later deployed to the area; while the case was  reported to have been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as at the time of filing this report for further investigation.
Penpushing reports that, as at the time of filing this report,, the Edo State Police Command was yet to make official statement on the ugly development, but a police officer who preferred annonimity, because he is not authorise to speak with journalists said investigation has commenced on the incident.
