Don’t let politicians use you for selfish interest, Federal lawmaker, Shina Peller tells journalists

A federal lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju, Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency in the House of Representative, Hon. Shina Peller has urged Nigerian journalists not to be used irresponsibly by politicians to fulfill their political ambition at the detriment of the overall interest of the country.
Penpushing reports that he noted that as 2023 general elections approaches, journalists should played vital roles in societal development and nation building and must not allowed themselves to be used as an instrument for division or violence.
The lawmaker speaking during the3rd edition of Shina Peller NUJ Ramadan Lecture/Iftar held at Press Center, Iyaganku, Ibadan, stated that there can never be societal development where there is no peace, adding that journalists as fourth estate of realm and watchdogs of the society should intensify efforts in helping to correct the societal ills in the country.
“Our country is presently battling with a lot of challenges, and topping the list is insecurity and lack of peace. As journalists, you need to use all the instruments at your disposal to help the government in addressing this”, he said
Penpushing further reports that, he however urged the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) in Oyo State to come together as one entity and drive the discussion that will lead to the progress of the state and Nigeria at large.
The Dean, Faculty of Art, University of Ibadan, Prof. Afis Oladosu in his lecture titled “Islamic Perspective: Media Leadership and Quest for National Unity in Face of Growing Insecurity in the Land”, noted that challenges facing the media are enormous, adding that Nigeria deserved better leadership and this can be done through the media.
Penpushing also reports that,Oladosu noted that one of the challenges facing Nigeria is how to find leaders that will take the nation to the promise land, saying that the kind of leaders Nigerians is having now is different from what they desired.
The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Oyo State Council, Comrade Ademola Babalola noted that the purpose of the program was to awaken journalists consciousness so as to know that they have role to play in the betterment of the nation.
