DINO MELAYE LOSES LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO SMART ADEYEMI
The final result for the Local Government as announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), showed that Adeyemi polled a total of 11,627 votes while Melaye’s scored 7,647 votes in the Local Government, and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Natasha Akpoti, came a distant third with 49 votes.
Penpushing further reports that, Ijumu is part of Kogi West Senatorial District, the district Adeyemi and Melaye seek to represent in the Senate, while reports have it that elections in the area were characterized by violence, with armed thugs shooting sporadically and chasing voters and election observers.
The reports also have it that, at least one person sustained gunshot injury during the violence, while it is on record that, Ijumu Local Government has a total registered voters of 59,578, while 20,199 were accredited to vote on Saturday, but there were cancelations in five PUs across three RACs due to violence.
