Delta state police command cracks down on traffic offenders in warri, asaba, prosecutes 68 for various offences
The Delta State Police Command has prosecuted a total of sixty-eight offenders at the State Mobile Courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at the Magistrate Court, Okwe, a step aimed to intensify enforcement operations on major roads.
Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer Edafe Bright said in a statement that the prosecution was in collaboration with seven designated Judges and Magistrates of Mobile Courts across the state.
The statement added that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to promote compliance with traffic laws and ensure the safety and security of all residents of the state, as well as to tackle the rising trend of traffic violations.
Penpushing further reports that the offenders were apprehended for a range of traffic infractions, explaining that seven individuals were charged for unauthorized use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, fifteen for driving without registration numbers.
The others include two for illegitimate use of sirens and revolving lights, fifteen for obstruction on the roads, thirteen for driving with covered number plates, and eleven for driving without valid driver’s licenses.
‘It is noteworthy that vehicles with unregistered or covered number plates are often used to commit offences and evade security checks at various checkpoints. All offenders were fined in accordance with the provisions of the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations, reinforcing the consequences of violating traffic laws’.
Penpushing also reports that the command said it is deepening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA) to clamp down on traffic offenders and enhance overall security across the State.
The statement stated that these partnerships aim to ensure coordinated enforcement, reduce traffic-related incidents, and strengthen public safety on Delta State roads.
‘The Command urges all road users to comply with traffic regulations, ensure vehicles are properly registered, and carry valid driving licenses at all times. The Delta State Police Command remains committed to a zero-tolerance approach toward traffic violations and will continue to take decisive action to safeguard lives and maintain order on the State’s roads’,Edafe wrote.
