Dayo Kujore could not achieve desire to build church before death, says family

The family of late popular juju musician, Dayo Kujore known as ‘Wonder Boy’ who died at 69 following brief illness disclosed that he was unable to build a church, which was his genuine desire before death took him away at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja

Penpushing reports that, daughter of the deceased; Ayinke Kujore made this known while featuring as a guest of Lawolesun on Sweet F.M 107.1 programme anchored by Bebe Musiliu on Thursday night in Abeokuta

The bereaved said the death of her father remained shocking to the family, explaining that he suddenly fell ill, following stress and was subsequently taken to hospital, adding that he was responding to treatment before he suddenly gave up the ghost

Penpushing further reports that, the daughter, who is a broadcaster recalled last minutes of her father, adding that, he had earlier complained of inability to eat well, and tiredness, hence was subsequently taken to hospital for medications

The bereaved said some investigations were conducted which revealed that, he had typhoid coupled with stress, adding that, after medications, he was responding to treatment, a development which was sharing news for the family

Penpushing also reports that, she said the family never thought that, the sharing news was just for awhile, lamenting that, the development turned sour when the great musician suddenly gave up the ghost, ending his sojourn on earth.

The daughter said she was closed to the father that she confided in her, on many things, adding that one of his major desire was to build a church to appreciate God for doing wonders in his life, stressing that he was a known prayer warrior

‘One greatest desire of my father was to build a church. He is proactive prayer warrior, who appreciates what God has been doing in his life. He has plan to appreciate God by building a church to honour Him, but death prevented that desire’, she emphasised

Penpushing reports that, it is recalled that, the bereaved daughter had earlier on Monday announced the passing of the legendary juju musician, when she shared a picture of her father with the caption RIP Dad’

The family in an official announcement on Tuesday, disclosed that the veteran musician and Soko music exponent died after a brief illness at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos State.

‘The family of Wonder Adedayo Kujore, the Soko Music exponent, wishes to inform the general public officially of his death. Dayo Kujore, died yesterday morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja after a brief illness’, the family wrote.


‘He was 69 years old.  Survived with children and many grandchildren. The body has been deposited at a morgue while the burial arrangements will be announced later by the family”, the statement said

Penpushing further reports that, the deceased  who was among the modern-day pioneers of the Nigerian-styled musical art form, was born on the 4th of April, 1962 in Igbore Robiyan, Abeokuta, Ogun State to parents who were clerics of the African Church.

The late musician as a child,  joined the choir in his local church and learnt how to play musical instruments such as the guitar, and the piano which made him fall in love with music, and was disclovered by travelling musicians  who came to his village to perform at special events.

Penpushing also reports that, the musicians spotted the young Kujore’s talent and invited him to join them during their performances, which he did, and thereafter aafter performing with the likes of Chief Composer Jossy Olu Oguntade, MD Jaiyesinmi and Prince Adekunle, he formed a band called the Superstars with some youths, after which he formed his own band.
