Dangote truck causes death of 17 persons on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A Dangote truck on Friday allegedly caused death of seventeen persons said to have being burnt beyond recognition in a fatal road crash which occurred few meters to the Isara bridge along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Penpushing reports that, the driver of the truck was said to be driving against traffic, an offence said to be route violation, while as at the time of filing this report number of those involved was yet unknown.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe who confirmed the accident explained that the crash involved two vehicles, a Mazda bus with registration number numbersZT728 KLD and tanker which number was yet to be ascertain as at time of report

Penpushing further reports that, Okpe affirmed that suspected causes of the fatal crash were  route violation and dangerous driving which resulted to head on collision and led to  fire outbreak.

‘The total number of people involved is not ascertained but a total of 17 bodies (killed) have been identified. (1M, 1F,1FC only have been identified) while others were burnt beyond recognition and no injury sustained’, she said

‘A total of 02 vehicles were involved with registration numbersZT728 KLD a Mazda  Bus 2.Veh Reg: Unknown, Veh make: Unknown. A  Tanker. The suspected causes of the fatal crash were  Route violation and Dangerous driving which resulted to head on collision and fire out break’,Okpe added

Penpushing also reports that, the statement said the Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar described the crash as an avoidable one, if cautions were put in place and traffic rules and regulations were obeyed

The Command Superintendent Route Commander said the sector commander commiserate with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) Ogere for more information about the crash.
