Crisis hit Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun state, as two aspirants emerged as Governorship candidate

The over one decade crisis of the Ogun State Chapter of Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday reared its ugly head following emergence of two Governorship candidates from parallel congresses
Penpushing reports that, in the separate congress held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre and Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta produced, Segun Showunmi and Ladi Adebutu respectively
The chairman of the electoral committee, Abayomi Daniel who conducted the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre declared Segun Sowunmi as the elected candidate with 555 votes, while Jimi Lawal polled 30 votes and Ladi Adebutu came third with 15 votes.
Penpushing further reports that Sowunmi in his response appreciated the delegates for electing him as the party flagbearer ahead of the Governorship election, and boasted that he would win the election to become next Governor of the State.
“We thank God, we thank the delegates, we thank all and sundries who have worked very well and worked peacefully, we thank all the members of my campaign team, we thank the volunteers, we thank the member of the social media gang, the end and faith media, we thank the Leadership of the party, we thank all the good people of Ogun State” he said.
Penpushing also reports that the primary of the party held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library which lasted over 8 hours, amidst heavy gunshot produced Ladi Adebutu as winner, having polled 714 votes in total 716 vote cast, with 2 voided.
The winner of the factional primary, Adebutu in his response after the controversial poll, admitted that it has been a tedious journey, hence need to proffer solution to number of problems confronting the nation
“I seized this opportunity for bringing us this far, it is a tedious journey. It is lacked of compassion and time that makes us as a failed nation. Lack of compassion has caused lacked of empathy and sympathy, I must create hope and environment to believe your tomorrow shall be better. If you believe your today cannot be better than tomorrow, you’ve failed. If your earnings that cannot make you a better tomorrow, we have failed.
“There is a big problem, the first is the problem of hunger in the land. We must go back to agriculture, thank God Ogun state is extensively a rural community, there shall be dignity of labour.
“Let us retool and get commissioned for being a gateway state. All the industries are leaving Ota because the present government has failed. We shall provide electricity and those industries will stay. We shall think and do things differently.
“When you have a government that is trustworthy, the private sector will bring money into governance. Private sector should build roads and transfer it to government. The government revenue should be invested in hospitals and socio economic sector not on road infrastructure.”
