Court suspends police enforcement of tinted glass permit
A Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of police to suspend the enforcement of the tinted glass permit across the country.
Penpushing reports that, a human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong disclosed this in a post on X, while, a lawyer, Aikpokpo-Martins had approached the court to challenge the legality of the new tinted permit enforcement.
The court ordered the police and the Inspector General of Police to maintain the status quo and respect judicial processes pending further proceedings in the matter, and issued the interim order during a hearing in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025 instituted by John Aikpokpo-Martins against the police boss and the police.
Penpushing further reports that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Kunle Edun, who led the petitioner’s legal team, said that the directive is a major step in ensuring that the rule of law is upheld while the substantive issues in the case are being determined.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) instituted a suit against the Inspector General of Police on September 5, 2025 over the tinted glass permit policy, describing it as unlawful and a violation of Nigerians’ fundamental rights.
Penpushing also reports that the Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, responding to the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), said the association’s position was misleading and an attempt to cast aspersions on the image, integrity, and lawful operations of the force.
The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in its 1 October letter to the Inspector General of Police pointed out that the legality of the tinted glass policy is a subject of litigation at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Penpushing reports that the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) told the Inspector General of Police that the Nigeria Police, as a law enforcement agency, should know better not to be lawless, while it is also recalled that the enforcement of the tinted glass permit was initially billed to take off on June 1, 2025, but was shifted to October 2, 2025.
