Court sentence soldiers to death for killing cleric
The Yobe State High Court sitting in Potiskum has sentenced two lance corporals in the army, John Gabriel and Ádámù Gideon, to death by hanging for armed robbery and killing of an Islamic cleric
Penpushing reports that the soldiers who had earlier been dismissed by the military authorities and handed them over to the police for prosecution, during their trial confessed to have conspired to murder the Sheik Goni Aisami last August in the state
The judge Justice Usman Zannah, while delivering judgment convicted Gideon on the first count of robbery and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment but he was acquitted of the second count of murder., while it was also established that Gabriel shot and killed Aisami and also tried to steal his car after he gave him a lift.
