Court remands suspect for attempting to rape 13-year-old girl
A 20-year-old man, Garzali Murtala, standing trial over an alleged attempt to rape a 13-year-old girl has been ordered to be remanded by a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano, for alleged attempt to rape a 13-year-old girl.
Penpushing reports Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar, equally ordered the police to return the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, and in same vein did not take the plea of the defendant.
The prosecutor, Ibrahim Arif-Garba, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on 21 September at about 9 a.m. at a bush along Sulbawa village in Rimingado Local Government Area of the state.
Penpushing further reports that Arif-Garba, informed the court that the defendant blocked the 13-year-old girl and forcefully attempted to rape her in a bush, emphasizing that the offence contravened the provisions of section 95 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, a resident of Galadimawa Village, Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State, was charged with attempted rape, while the Magistrate in his ruling adjourned the matter until 20 November 2023 for further mention.
