Egba High Chief, Sunday Oduntan bags honorary degree of doctor of divinity

A prominent Egba High Chief Sunday Oduntan was on Friday bestowed with the award of Doctor of Divinity (Honoris Causa) by the Crowther Graduate Theological Seminar of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion in affiliation with Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.

Penpushing reports that the ceremony by the institute in collaboration with Bethhany International University, Singapore was held during the graduation ceremony of new graduates held at the campus located within premises of former Abeokuta Grammar School, Isale Igbein, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The awardee who is the Asiwaju Baamofin of Egbaland was accompanied by members of his family, friends, associates and old students association of Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta to grace the occasion.

Penpushing further reports that the management of the institute said the faculty and Senate have heard so much about his contributions to human development and emancipation which is immensely remarkable and his love for all Christians which is immeasurable.

‘We appreciate your contributions to the growth and development of justice, equity, peace and human development particularly in Abeokuta, Ogun State and the entire country.  You have faithfully represented the church and her christ. We therefore consider you eminently qualified for the award of Doctor of Divinity (Honoras Causa)’ the management emphasized.

Penpushing also reports that Oduntan’s profile has it that he is a resourceful Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with excellent inter-personal and communications skills.

The awardee was born into the great Oduntan family of Oganla compound, Ijeun, Abeokuta to Papa Emmanuel Oduntan and Mrs Comfort Oduntan, when his father was 80 years old, while he attended St John’s Anglican Primary School, Alaba, in Obafemi between 1968 to 1973

Penpushing reports that he attended Abeokuta Grammar School from 1976 to 1981 after been a tailor for three years, after his secondary education he worked at Obafemi local government as a clerical officer from 1981-1982.

The awardee later attended Ogun State College of Education, Ijebu-Ode, where he studied Fine Arts from 1982 to 1985, and thereafter taught at various schools, from where he relocated to United Kingdom in the 80’s to search for the golden fleece

Penpushing further reports that Oduntan is currently the Managing Director of ANED and the official spokesperson of all 11 electricity distribution companies in Nigeria, and equally studied law at the London South Bank University fro where he bagged an LL. B(Hon) Degree in Law

The Egba born also obtained an LL.M in energy and natural resources law from the University of East London, and later attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the bar, while he is certified mediator and arbitrator as well as certified relationship counsellor

Penpushing also reports that Oduntan is the current President-General of Abeokuta Grammar School old Boys Association worldwide, the oldest alumni in West Africa, formed in 1921, with current global membership of over 65,000
