Court fixes Tuesday for Emefiele’s arraignment

The embattled former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) Godwin Emefiele will on Tuesday, July 25,2023 be arraigned in court  on the charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as the case assigned to a trial judge.

Penpushing reports that the Federal High Court in Lagos fixed the date when Emefiele will appear before a trial judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, having being assigned the case to him

The defence team of Emefiele confirmed the development, as one of the lawyers, Victor Opara, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), disclosed that the team had received the hearing notice for the arraignment

Penpushing further reports that Emefiele’s defence team has been led by a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Joseph Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), in the major cases that he has filed since his arrest.

The State Security Service (SSS), in the newly filed case accused Emefiele of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence, an offence said to be contrary to Section 4 of the Firearms Act, and punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.

Penpushing also reports that in the second count, the agency charged him with illegally possessing 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a licence, an offence said to be contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b) (il) of the same Act.
