Coup fears: Gunfire in Guinea Guinea-Bissau, driving distance of 2,349 miles to Nigeria

Guinea-Bissau, a driving distance of 2,349 miles/3780 kilometers to Nigeria on Tuesday experienced coup attempt, as soldiers fired heavy gunshot near government where the President, Umaro Embalo was said to be holding meeting with cabinet.

Penpushing reports that, the air travel shortest distance between the country and Nigeria is 2,628 kilometers-1,633 miles, while as at the time of filing this report, details of the attempted coup still sketchy.

The African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have condemned the situation in the country, adding that they are following evolution of the development with concern

‘ECOWAS is following with great concern the evolution of the situation in Guinea-Bissau … where military gunfire is taking place around the Government Palace” the bodies emphaised in separate statement regional body said in a statement

Penpushing further reports that, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Mahamat, in reaction to the ugly development in the West African country in a statement said he is following the situation with great concern

The chairperson called on the military to return to their barracks without delay and to ensure the physical integrity of President Umaro Sissoco Embalo and the members of his government and to immediately release those among them who are in detention.”

Penpushing also reports that attempted coup  in Guinea-Bissau occurs about a week after the military in Burkina Faso forcefully ejected the sitting government, suspended the constitution and declared itself as the new leadership of the country.
