Councillorship candidate shot dead in ogun state four weeks ahead of poll

The Councillorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Abeokuta South Local Government in Ogun State in the forthcoming poll, Adeleke Adeyinka has been reported shot dead on Saturday at a joint located at Jide Jones axis of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Penpushing reports that eyewitness account said the gunmen arrived the spot at about 2pm in a tinted car, and thereafter stepped out, to rain bullet on the politician at close range, and equally smashed his head until he gave up the ghost.

The customers at the joint as well as residents of the area, were said to be running helter-skelter when the gunmen arrived to kill the Adeyinka who was a former youth leader of Abeokuta South Local Government.

Penpushing further reports that the deceased was said to be a transport union worker in  Panseke area of Abeokuta, aspiring for the post of Councilor for Ward 15 in the forthcoming November 16, 2024 local government elections

“The killing happened around 2 p.m., it took everybody by surprise. No one knows if it was a cultist attack or not. The people in the area are already locking their shops. Everywhere is tense now, it is so sad’, a witness was quoted saying

Penpushing also reports that the Ogun All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum, Abeokuta South local government in a statement signed by Comrade Kabir Odedairo, and Timothy Odedina, described the killing as senseless and horrific.

‘The Ogun State All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum is deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal murder of Adeleke Adeyinka, the APC candidate for Ward 15, Abeokuta South, who was killed today in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta City’, the statement reads.

“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving. The fact that Adeleke was shot and stoned to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is particularly disturbing and warrants immediate attention from law enforcement agencies’, it added.

“Adeleke was not only a promising young leader but also a dedicated member of our party, having served as the youth leader of Ward 15 in Abeokuta South and worked with others during the election’, the forum stated

Penpushing further reports that the forum demanded a swift and thorough investigation by relevant authorities to ensure justice is served and urged the police to increase patrols and security measures in the affected areas to prevent further violence.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report a visit to the scene observed that the victim was lying face up in a pool of his blood, while the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, when contacted said the command was not aware of the incident.
