Coronavirus: President Trump approves chloroquine for virus treatment, as 150 die in America
The United States of America (USA) has lost 150 persons to coronavirus, as at Thursday, and a record of10, 491 cases, an increase of 3,404 cases from its previous count, and the records came, just as President Donald Trump approved the use of chloroquine for the treatment of the virus
Penpushing reports that, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made this known adding that, the death toll risen by 53 from previous record of deaths, as the Centres reported its tally of cases of respiratory illness, COVID-19, caused by a new coronavirus, as of 4 pm ET on Thursday compared with its report on Wednesday.
The Coronavirus cases have been reported in all 50 States and the District of Columbia, but the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) figures do not necessarily reflect cases reported by individual States.
Penpushing further reports that, Trump speaking with journalists at the White House on Thursday on the chloroquine approval said, “It’s been around for a long time, so we know if things don’t go as planned, it’s not going to killing anybody,”
The record, however, has it that, chloroquine has been in use for decades for the treatment of malaria, but it has been phased out for malaria treatment after researchers discovered the disease was becoming resistant to the drug.
Penpushing also reports that, Doctors in China, where coronavirus originated, had earlier reported using chloroquine for coronavirus treatment, but the World Health Organisation(WHO) expressed doubt about its efficacy saying more research was needed.
