Coronavirus: Nigerian Doctors fault admission of late Kyari, prominent Nigerians at private hospitals
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has faulted the government usage of private hospitals for the treatment and management of coronavirus, declaring that such actions as public health threat and poses severe consequences for the country.
Penpushing reports that, the Nigerian Doctors made the declaration in reaction to the use of a private hospital by the late chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, and the isolation of Governors, who contracted the deadly virus.
The Lagos State Government has just owned up that, the late Chief of Staff was treated at the First Cardiology Consultants (FCC)- a private cardiology-focused hospital located in Ikoyi, a revealation which contradicts the position of the Minister of Health, Prof Osagie Ehinare, on the same issue.
Penpushing further reports that the leadership of Nigeria Medical Association(NMA) and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD),added that, aside from the threat poses by the development, the current lockdown across in some states may eventually translate to nothing in the fight against the virus if the development is not urgently addressed.
The doctors were reacting to the use of a private hospital by the late chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, and the isolation of governors, who contracted the dangerous disease, at isolation centres outside the designated public ones that are set up in their states.
Penpushing also reports that, the Nigerian Doctors described the development as a violation of the existing protocol in the fight against the novel virus, while the Health Minister on Friday admitted that there is no private hospital registered to manage coronavirus cases in the country.
The Minister, who is a key member of the task force, in another twist of event claimed that some private hospitals were already being considered in Lagos, and that one had already communicated to him to express willingness to be part of the process.
