Convoy stoppage: I only prevented Ondo state deputy governor from political attack, says police commissioner

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami has justified his action in preventing the Deputy Governor of the State, Agboola Ajayi, leaving the government house with his official vehicle, saying that he led the operation to prevent Ajayi from being attack.

Penpushing reports that, the police boss rebuffed the public criticism that followed his action, denying allegation that he was been used by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to torment the Deputy Governor, rather he was at the scene to maintain law and order amongst opposition supporters of the Governor and Deputy Governor.

“I was there to maintain law and order after hearing that the governor’s supporters were outside the deputy governor’s residence to prevent him from going out in a vehicle they said belonged to the state,” Salami said

Penpushing further reports that, the commissioner explained  that on arrival at the scene, he met many supporters of the Governor and placated them with assurances that the police were only there to ensure that no damages were inflicted on humans and property.

The police boss said he asked the Deputy Governor to provide paperwork proving his ownership of the vehicle, but this was not immediately done, adding that the Deputy Governor, thereafter called him on Sunday morning, and the issue was properly addressed.

“The deputy governor called me this morning, and he understood that I am a commissioner of police and I know the right thing to do whenever we encounter tensions between politicians’, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, the primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in the State is scheduled to hold  hold between late June and early July, while the election proper has been fixed for October 10.

Meanwhile, Akeredolu has already signified his intention to seek re-election under the the platform of All Progressives Congress(APC), while there had being rumour that, his Deputy, Agbaje Ajayi is also interested on the seat, and said to be considering contesting under Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), a development linked to their political face off
