Commissioner’s death: Activities grounded at Ogun State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission
The activities at the Ogun State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was on Tuesday grounded following sudden death of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) , Barrister ‘Niyi Ijalaye.
Penpushing reports that news of the demise of Ijalaye filtered to the town late Monday, having said to had slumped after returning to his hotel room after a meeting of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The sudden death of Ijalaye came as a shock to staffers of the commission in Ogun State, as check at the headquarters of the commission located at Magbon area of Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta showed quiet environment with few of the workers met wearing mournful look.
Penpushing further reports that a condolence register already opened at the Abeokuta headquarters, where the deceased work last, and as at the time of filing this report number of politicians had visited the commission to register their condolences
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has commiserated with the family of the late Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), lamenting that the news came as a rude shock to him.
Penpushing also reports that Abiodun in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, described the deceased as an honest, committed, and cerebral public servant with a high level of humility and patriotism, as well as an exemplary, uncompromising nature.
The Governor in the condolence statement, however, prayed for the repose of his soul of the Ondo state born electoral commission boss, and the necessary fortitude for his immediate family, friends, and colleagues to bear the irreplaceable loss.
“I sympathize with the entire Ijalaye dynasty, the people, and the government of Ondo State on the passing of their great and illustrious son; indeed, Barrister Ijalaye was an exemplary figure of diligence, commitment, and honesty in public service.
“While his death came as a rude shock to us in Ogun State, we take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life of integrity and indelible impact; may God rest his soul and protect the family he left behind,” the statement read.
Penpushing reports that Ijalaye in a verified timeline of the commission on Facebook, before his death was in a photograph dressed in blue striped Kaftan with a red cap, while it is recalled that he was posted to Ogun State in March 2022, following the transfer of Olusegun Agbaje to Lagos State.
