Civil Defence Corps stray bullet kills State Security Service official
A stray bullet from the rifle of official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has claimed life of an official of the State Security Service (SSS), Seyi Adebowale, during the visit of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai to Kuta, Osun State
Penpushing reports that the Chief of Staff was on a visit the state to commission a bridge constructed by the Nigerian Army, and the official of the defence corps, Sunday Dada alongside his colleagues were said to be shooting indiscriminately into the air in a celebratory mood when a stray bullet hit Adebowale.
The bullet hit the official of the State Security Service(SSS) in the abdomen and was immediately rushed to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, but later died after two unsuccessful surgical operations and was subsequently buried on Friday.
Penpushing further reports that, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Danile Adigun when contacted, confirmed the incident, although he said the incident happened due to an operational error.
The Corps spokesman said the officer involved in the shooting has since been arrested and detained by the command, adding that, “we are currently conducting a (an orderly) room trial and we are on top of the situation to make sure such does not occur again.”
