Board under my leadership will transform ogun state water corporation for better services, says Olu-Fatoki
The Chairman of the newly inaugurated board of the Ogun State Water Corporation Hon. Johnson Olu-Fatoki, has assured that his team will transform the agency into a viable business enterprise and improve water supply across the state.
Penpushing reports that Olu-Fatoki gave the assurance at the maiden strategic inaugural meeting with the management of the corporation, held at the corporation’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta
The board chairman expressed concern over the corporation’s financial imbalance, lamenting that despite government’s N150 million monthly spending on water provision, the agency only generates about N15 million in revenue.
Penpushing further reports that Olu-Fatoki described the situation as unacceptable, and emphasized the need for synergy between the board and the management to address operational challenges, block revenue leakages, and improve water delivery to all parts of the state.
The Chairman stressed that the situation cannot continue like that, pointing out that the Governor has given the board a clean mandate to turn things around, boasting that the board was ready to hit the ground running.
Penpushing also reports that Olu-Fatoki disclosed plans to inspect all water schemes and facilities across the state to assess existing infrastructure and proffer solutions for better performance, adding that the board will equally explore Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models to enhance technical capacity and attract investment into the sector.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources, Damilola Otubanjo who led the agency in welcoming the board assured the board of the management’s readiness to collaborate fully in repositioning the agency.
Penpushing reports that she disclosed that plans were underway to install prepaid meters for all customers to reduce water wastage and enhance billing efficiency, just as she attributed part of the state’s water supply challenges to the destruction of pipelines by construction firms during road expansion projects, a development that has hampered distribution in several areas.
Meanwhile, other board members present at the meeting include Akeran Jimoh, Engr. Femi Oyebanjo, Hon. Gafar Balogun, Hon. Omowunmi Adewale, and Mrs. Ganiyat Abiola Busari.
