Cancer kills Nigerian popular musician, Sound Sultan at 44

The  popular Nigerian musician, Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as ‘Sound Sultan’ has died at age 44, after a prolonged battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma, a group of cancers that affect the lymphatic system

Penpushing reports that, the family announced the death on Sunday in a statement signed by Kayode Fasasi, adding that the famous musician passed on after a “hard fought battle” with the ailment.

‘Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is a group of related malignancies (cancers) that affect the lymphatic system (lymphomas)’.

Penpushing further reports that, the late musician news of his ailment surfaced in May online, where it was speculated that he was diagnosed of throat cancer and was said to be in United States of America (USA) receiving treatment

The  deceased brother, Baba Dee, also a musician  in an Instagram post on Sunday wrote in Arabic, saying: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”, while reports has it that he is survived by a wife, three children and his siblings.

Penpushing also reports that, Sound Sultan started his showbiz career  in the 1990s when he hosted shows in order to raise money for studio sessions., and by1999, he had won numerous local talent-hunt shows and released his monster hit, “Jagbajantis” in 2000.

The deceased  was a singer, songwriter, and recording artiste who was regarded as one of the pioneers of hip-hop music in Nigeria, and after independently releasing other singles and featuring in hit songs of other artists, he was signed by Kennis Music.

Penpushing reports that, this was more than 20 years after he launched his music career, while it is on record that, the  ace musician remained relevant in the industry even in death, and equally. released his eight album, ‘8th World Wonder’ in May 2020.
