Broadcast journalism taught me value of dedication, discipline, excellence, says Toyin Sogbesan

The immediate past General Manager of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Toyn Sogbesan has disclosed that her years at the station where she later rose to exalted position taught her the value of dedication, discipline, and excellence.
Penpushing reports that Sogbesan made this known during her 60th birthday and retirement after meritorious career spanning over three decades, pointing out that broadcasting recognizes no gender barriers.
The veteran broadcast journalist, however, advised and encouraged the younger generation to be focus, stressing that broadcasting may not appear to bring quick money but with dedication, it can be a platform to achieve great things
“A broadcaster is always a broadcaster. There’s no gender difference. Whatever a man can do, a woman can also do. My advice to the upcoming generation is to be focused and put God first. Broadcasting may not appear to bring quick money, but with dedication, it can be a platform to achieve great things,” she emphasized”.
Penpushing further reports that Sogbesan recalling her journalism journey explained that she had earlier ventured into teaching profession, before she later joined Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) in June 1, 1991
The General Manager spoke candidly about the sacrifices of her career, including missing twelve consecutive Christmas and New Year celebrations with her family due to work demands, emphasizing that there is no excuse you will give that will not make you function optimally at your duty post.
Penpushing also reports that Soogbesan who bowed out of service on September 9, 2025, after 34 years, three months, and nine days was honoured at the colourful ceremony by number of personalities within and outside Ogun State.

The Pastor of Living Faith Church, Olomoore, Abeokuta, Andrew Akowe who spoke on the theme “Gratitude, Key for Unending Wonders’, emphasized the power of thanksgiving and urged attendees to always give thanks to God, and described the celebrant as wonderfully and fearfully made, commending her for her achievements.
Penpushing reports that notable dignitaries at the event include Kehinde Onasanya(Ogun State Head of Service), Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji(Founder Penpushing Media), Mrs. Patricia Adefoluke Adeola (mother of the celebrant), Sina Adefolahan(Secretary Planning Committee Penpushing Media) and Mr. Tunde Kazeem (General Manager, OGTV).
The others are Elder Adekunle Edun, Elder Mrs. Janet Edun, Mrs. Kiitan Oyesiku (Veteran Broadcaster), Tokunbo Talabi (Secretary, Ogun State Government), Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan (Commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Ogun State) and Prof Tope Popoola and several serving and retired Permanent Secretaries.
Penpushing further reports that family members of celebrator, old students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, journalism gurus, staffers of the radio station, friends, church members and colleagues were not left out at the event
The atmosphere was lively, with music band entertaining guests, who were treated to sumptuous menu, while the programme climaxed with the cutting of the birthday cake with inscription ‘Mum @60, followed by the presentation of gifts.
