BOREHOLE DRILLERS SET TO TACKLE FAKE PRODUCERS IN OGUN

The Chairman, pointed out that, part of the association objectives is to promote cooperation among water well services and product providers and to regulate activities in the sector thereby ensuring best practices in water well delivery

‘The association is committed to ensuring a high success rate of boreholes being drilled in Ogun State ,therefore it regulates control and enforce her members to provide boreholes that are prolific and of high yield’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that, Adekoya noted that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 is crystal clear, stating that, ’water for all by 2030’, and this meant providing water for every individual while leaving no one behind.

The association boss, however, ,lamented that billions of people as at today are still living without safe water, their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive, while observing that in Ogun State many residents  get water from unhealthy sources.

‘Water is important to every living being, it is a fundamental human need. Each person on Earth requires at least 20 to 50 litres of clean, safe water a day of drinking, cooking and simply keeping themselves clean’.

Penpushing also reports that, in his contribution, Secretary of the Association, Hon Lanre Jaji, noted that some International organisations like UNESCO have been helping in provision of water in Nigeria, adding that in 2002, Federal Government Borehole programme by Ogun –Oshun River Basin Development Authority had a borehole contracts.

The Scribe also noted that, in 2005 during the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo boreholes project were awarded to some contractors for execution in some Senatorial Districts, but lamented that as at today, many of the boreholes have seized to function.

Penpushing further reports that, Jaji attributed this to failed maintenance culture of the beneficiaries, but expressed optimism that, ’we can reactivate those boreholes instead of issuing out new boreholes contracts’
