Blackout as national grid collapses in Nigeria
The national grid has collapsed on Monday after major power plants lost generation, which has plunged many Nigerians into darkness as at the time of filing this report.
Penpushing reports that power generation had peaked at about 4,800 megawatts earlier on Monday before crashing to 139MW as of 3 pm, however, the cause of the collapse could not be immediately confirmed as at the time of filing this report
The grid collapse at a time when the Nigerian Independent System Operator was making efforts to ramp up generation following recent gas constraints caused by pipeline vandalism, while as at the time of filing this report, all 22 power plants connected to the grid had lost generation.
