The governor added, ’the media is a vital tool in bridging the divide between the governed and government as well as a veritable tool in information dissemination. Therefore, it must play its role alongside concise reportage of news, in order not to unnecessarily stir up chaos and pandemonium, through fake or unverifiable news.
Amosun further emphasized that, there was the need to check the rate at which untrue and unestablished information is being relayed with reckless abandon, today, by the media and others alike, stressing that gone are the days, when journalists took to heart the importance of investigative journalism, before going to press with their news stories.
‘Many at times, tempers have been unnecessarily incited by carelessness on the part of information carriers, in relaying news not properly verified by them. This lecture is one that will help curtail this bane. I hope we will utilise the knowledge gathered here’, the governor emphasied.
