
Bayelsa state team tops medal table at day 3 of national sports festival
The Bayelsa State has topped the medals table, in the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun State as the competitions reached the third day, leading with a total of nine medals—six gold, two silver, and one bronze as at Wednesday.
Penpushing reports that the feat highlighted the team strong start across multiple disciplines as the competitions heat up, as Oyo State follows closely with six medals, including four golds, while Lagos sits third with ten medals in total (three gold, four silver, three bronze).
The Cross River and Rivers states round out the top five, while defending champions Delta state team are notably in seventh position with just one gold after third day, however, highlights across events showed that at the Alake Sports Centre, handball produced high-intensity action in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Penpushing further reports that Ogun state team recorded a convincing 32–20 win over Kogi in the women’s category, while Edo state recorded 33–15 performance against Kano, asserting their intent in the tournament.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja team overpowered Kano state team 29–20 in the men’s matches, while Adamawa state defeated Enugu state in a nail-biting 32–31 finish—one of the day’s most dramatic contests.
Penpushing also reports that Sokoto state team defeated Osun state team 26–18, maintaining control throughout the match, while in the Wushu Kungfu events, Kwara state team opened their medal account through Sidiq Bolaji Sidiq, who claimed silver in the Nanquan category
