Ogun state worker slumps, dies during union’s dialogue over strike

A civil servant in Ogun State identified as Sunday Ogunjimi has slumped and died on Friday during agitation by workers to know an update from the leadership about meeting held with government, as the strike entered third  day

Penpushing reports that, the sad incident occurred at the headquarters of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Moshood Abiola Way, Abeokuta, as the agitated civil servants alleged the leadership of compromise

The restless position of the workers led to attack on the secretariat, destroying some properties, when the leadership did not come out early enough to address them, and it was during this tension soaked period, Ogunjimi was reported to have suddenly slumped.

Penpushing further reports, his colleagues made frantic efforts to revive him, but when it dawned on them, he was moved into a waiting police van and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

The slumped worker, as fate would have it  could not make it to the hospital, as he as reported brought in dead by the hospital authorities, while  a visit to the hospital, by Penpushing revealed  his corpse inside the police truck, with number of his colleagues seen lamenting over the sudden loss,

Penpushing also reports that, the secretariat of the labour union as at the time of a visit had been deserted, as the offices were under lock and key, while efforts to get reactions of the leadership proved abortive.

The source at the union headquarters as at the time of this report said, arrangements   ongoing to deposit the remains in the morgue, adding that, a postmortem may likely be carried out on the corpse, to know the cause of the sudden death

Penpushing further reports that, as at the time of this report there as insinuations that, the deceased might have an ailment before the death, which may not be known to many of his colleagues and friends.
