Armed robbers invade Ogun community, shoot residents, cart away properties
Armed robbers on Tuesday stormed Ode-Remo community in Remo North Local of Ogun State and launched bloody attack on the residents, inflicting various degrees of injuries on them, before carting away their properties.
Penpushing reports that, the Ogun State Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed this on Thursday said the bandits equally robbed another neighbouring community, adding that one of the suspects was later arrested and presently assisting police in further investigation.
The bandits were reported to have arrived Oke-Ola area of Ode-Remo off old Lagos-Ibadan road at about 2.am and embarked on robbing number of houses, while in the process shot some of their victims, who were later admitted at General Hospital, Isara.
Penpushing further reports that, one of the victims, who is a landlord ,who was hit by the robbers bullets Oluwadamilare Otemoye, while narrating their ordeal said the bandits on arriving the community started shooting sporadically ordering residents to voluntarily open their doors, or face severe punishment.
The landlord recalled that, there was pandemonium in the community, following the robbers’ threat, adding that, those assumed by the bandits of not cooperating with their directives, or trying to escape were shot.
‘The incident took place around 2am within Oke-Ola area of Ode-Remo, off old Lagos-Ibadan road. The robbers left several persons injured and one person in critical condition at the General Hospital, Ishara. The police swept in, and arrested one of the hoodlums, who fingered two others also arrested’, he said
Penpushing also reports that, Otemoye said, ’at present despite police report and protests from citizenry two of the apprehended suspects have been released and walking free. This robbery incident has become recurrent and now a source of worry’.
The police spokesman speaking on the development, said only one suspect had been arrested, adding that exhibit recovered as at the time of filing this report were five mobile phones, stating that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the robbery gang.
‘The story is true, the robbers robbed in Ode and one other place, but police from Isara promptly responded and got one of the gang members arrested. About five phones were recovered from him and he is helping the police in their investigation. Meanwhile, the injured person who was taken to the hospital had been treated and discharged.
