Police boss fumbles with Vice President’s title, refers to him as GSM instead of GCON at official function

There was a mild drama on Monday at the dialogue on state police organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review, when an Assistant Inspector General of Police Ben Okolo, fumbled the title of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Penpushing reports that Okolo who came to represent the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun started his speech on an embarrassing note as he referred to Shettima as “GSM” instead of GCON (Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger).

The error from the police chieftain elicited laughter from the audience, and despite the laughter, the police officer could not immediately correct himself on the spot, but continued with his speech and later corrected himself and tendered an apology to the Vice President.

Penpushing further reports that at the ceremony the Vice President could not help himself as he joined in laughing over the gaffe by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, who later owned up to his error, explaining that he did not acknowledge the Vice President properly in the opening of the speech and thereafter apologised.
