Apostle Achudume calls for stiff penalty for perpetrators of domestic violence

A renowned cleric Apostle Lawrence Achudume has called on need by appropriate authorities for full enforcement of relevant punishments for those engaging in domestic violence, describing the high rate of the abuse as alarming.

Penpushing reports that, the General Overseer of Victory Life Bible Church(VLBC) stated this on an online chat, noting that the number of deaths as a result of domestic violence is on the increase stressing that domestic violence could be emotional, mental, sexual and verbally.

‘The high rate of domestic violence which include physical abuse, intimidation and harassment remains worrisome. The number of deaths as a result of domestic violence is on the increase;, he emphasized

Penpushing further reports that, the clergyman, also observed that unemployment, poverty, lack of patience and love among couples are some of the causes of domestic violence adding that an abuser often engage intimidating behaviour with the aim of destroying the self worth and confidence of the victim.

The General overseer said domestic violence could trigger depression and emotional trauma,and charged the victims to  seek  psychological, medical and spiritual counseling, warning that no victim of domestic violence should bottle up emotions and left to suffer unjustly.

Penpushing also reports that, Achudume noted that with families in lockdown as a result of coronavirus outbreak, victims of domestic violence will increase, and therefore  charged the authorities concerned to always enforce relevant punishment on abusers.

The cleric pointed out that  majority of women are being abused one way or the other on a daily basis by their spouses, and said it is important for the couples to get closer to God, in making happy homes
