Anti-Trafficking in Persons Vanguard launched by National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons among students in ogun state

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), has inaugurated the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Violence Against Persons (ATIPVAP) Vanguard.
Penpushing reports that the inauguration was held on Wednesday at Orile Igbore Grammar School, Ajura, in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State, aimed at sensitising students on the dangers of human trafficking and violence against persons, as well as empowering young people to become advocates against the social menace.
The traditional ruler of Ajura, Oba Abdul-Lateef Taiwo, speaking at the event commended National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) for bringing the awareness campaign to the grassroots, particularly to secondary school students.
Penpushing further reports that the monarch described the initiative as timely and necessary, pointing out that educating children at an early stage would help protect them from falling victim to human traffickers and other forms of exploitation.
The royal father urged the students to take the lessons seriously and serve as ambassadors of the anti-trafficking campaign within their communities.
Penpushing also reports that the Senior Project Officer, Mr. Samuel Okunkwo, delivered an extensive lecture on human trafficking, explaining its meaning, forms, causes and consequences.
The project officer enlightened the students on how traffickers lure victims through false promises of jobs, education and better living conditions, while stressing the importance of vigilance, reporting suspicious activities, and avoiding unsafe offers.
Penpushing reports that he encouraged the students to speak out against abuse and report cases of trafficking and violence through appropriate channels, assuring them of protection and support.
The Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Violence Against Persons (ATIPVAP) Vanguard was formally inaugurated during the programme, with selected students inducted to champion the fight against trafficking in persons and violence within and beyond the school environment.
Penpushing further reports that officials explained that the Vanguard initiative is designed to build a network of informed young advocates who will help spread awareness and prevent trafficking at the community level.
The event featured interactive sessions, questions and answers, and distribution of educational materials aimed at reinforcing the message of zero tolerance for human trafficking and violence against persons.
Meanwhile, the event marked another step in National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP’s) ongoing efforts, in partnership with International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), to strengthen preventive measures and promote awareness among youths across Ogun State.
