All progressives congress heads to tribunal to challenge Adeleke’s victory, accuses Aregbesola’s group of working against party
The All Progressives Congress (APC) ,Osun State Chapter has headed to tribunal to challenge the victory of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke having been declared as winner of the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state
Penpushing reports that, the Chairman of the ruling party in the state, Gboyega Famodun made this known on Thursday at a press conference held at the party secretariat in Osogbo, the State Capital, adding that the decision followed good grounds to challenge the results after the lawyer had studied them.
The party boss decried the suspected anti-party activities of an All Progressives Congress (APC) faction in the state, known as ”The Osun Progressive (TOP)’, said to be loyalists of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Penpushing further reports that, Famodun alleged that the faction of the All Progressives Congress(APC) worked for the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to deny the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) victory at the election.
The Aregbesola faction of the party, it is recalled had on Wednesday staged a protest in Osogbo, calling for a restructure of the party, a development the All Progressives Congress(APC) chairman described as shameful and wicked
“We are going to the tribunal. Our lawyers had informed us that we have good reasons to challenge the results of the election at the tribunal. Our position is that the protest was shameful, callous, primitive, selfish, wicked, misplaced and inconsiderate for the Aregbesola supporters, who glaringly worked against the success of Gov. Oyetola at the polls, to now be canvassing restructuring of the party through a sponsored protest.
“Assuming without conceding that there are challenges within the party, the protesters and their patron should know that they lack moral right to either suggest or effect any likely solution for the restructuring of our party, as it is on record that they massively and collectively worked against Oyetola’.
“Since members of the factional group (TOP) people, had done their worst by working assiduously and conscientiously by teaming up with the PDP for the success of Adeleke, which is the highest level of an anti-party activity that can be committed by any politician, it will be a needless venture to enter into any pact with the group that is bereft of honour,” he said.
Penpushing also reports that, it is recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 17 declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Osun state governorship election with 403,371 votes, while Governor Oyetola of All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded 375,027 votes.
