Nigeria to host International Press Institute Africa meeting

The Nigeria Chapter of International Press Institute (IPI) has accepted to host the maiden meeting of the African bloc of the National Committees of the International Press Institute (IPI).

Penpushing reports that Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris Malagi gave the indication during a meeting at in Vienna, Austria with the Chairman of the International Press Institute (IPI) Executive Board, Mr. Marton Gergely.

The meeting also involved the International Press Institute (IPI) Executive Director, Mr. Scott Griffen and the International Press Institute (IPI) Executive Board member, (representing Nigeria and Africa) , Mr. Raheem Adedoyin.

Penpushing further reports that the International Press Institute (IPI) Board on Thursday had approved the creation of regional blocs of National committees as a means of dealing with specific regional interests within the International Press Institute(IPI) Community.

The Minister added that Nigeria agrees to host the maiden meeting of the African bloc, stressing that it is a great honour for Nigeria to lead as it always do, just as he recalled that Nigeria successfully hosted the International Press Institute (IPI) World Congress and General Assembly in Abuja in 2018, and boasted that Nigeria is ready for another world-class hosting.

Penpushing also reports that International Press Institute (IPI) Executive Director assured that the secretariat in Vienna will work out the details with Adedoyin and the Nigerian National Committee.

The Executive Director acknowledged that Nigeria is a leading light in democratic governance with a free press and praised the Nigeria National Committee for its robust press freedom engagements.

The Minister of Information, however, discussed with the leadership of International Press Institute (IPI), the national Committeecs lingering quest for International Press Institute (IPI) assistance for the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) iOgba, Lagos.

Penpushing reports that Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ)was founded by the International Press Institute (IPI) in 1971 during the Board Presidency of late Alhaji Lateef Jakande .

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Governing Board is Chaired by International Press Institute (IPI) Leader and former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba.

Penpushing further reports that it would be recalled that the Minister, who is a leading member of International Press Institute (IPI) was a registered participant at the just- concluded World Congress and 75th Anniversary held in Vienna.

The Nigerian delegation at the congress included Board member, Raheem Adedoyin, Musikilu Mojeed;( President International Press Institute, Nigeria) former Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu; and Associate Professor of Mass Communication, Advisor, Public Communication, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr. Fabian Benjamin, and Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye.

Penpushing also reports that others are the Chief Executive Officer, Patrons Media/The Culture Newspaper, Mr. Steve Ayorinde; Processor of Mass Communication and Member of International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria Board of Trustees, University of Lagos, Professor Abigail Prof. Ogwuensi and International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria legal Adviser, Mr. Tobi Soniyan.
