Ogun state lawmaker writes in support of name change of two local government areas

It gladdens my heart today that I am a party in the glorious history as a State Legislator in Nigeria that pass RE: CONSTITIOUNAL AMENDMENTS- 44 ALTETERATION BILLS APPROVED BY NASS. The most joyous part of this alteration is the bill number 5; a Bill To Change The Names Of Egbado North And Egbado South Local Government  Areas To Yewa North And Yewa South respectively which has been passed successfully with total number of 21 honourable members present today at the plenary under the Speakership of Prince Taiwo Oluomo. Out of 26 members of Ogun State House of Assembly, only 5 were absent.

I want to thank my honourables colleagues for their support on this passage, I will also give kudos to Ogun West Stakeholders Forum under the leadership of Prince Femi Dokunmu and Dr Bamgbose Yemisi and other members of the forum for their participation in public hearing on amendments of 44 alteration bills approved by NASS which was done in the Ogun State House Of Assembly Complex Oke Mosan Abeokuta on 13th of July 2022.

Ogun West Stakeholders Forum submitted their memorandum to support this historical event.  That this change will also be in line with the provisions of Ogun State of Nigeria Gazette No 51, Vol.22 of 18th December, 1997 on Decree No 107 of 1993 which provides a legal Notice for the Suspension  and Modification of 1979 Constitution  as “Constitution ( Suspension and Modification) Decrees No 107 of 1993. That the concurrent passage of this bill by Ogun State House Of Assembly and its eventual passage into law by the National Assembly will put an end to the needless, avoidable  and unhealthy confusion that the reference to the two affected Local Government  Areas have witnessed since 1993.

While they are called Yewa South and Yewa North in Ogun State in line with the existing Decree and Gazette; Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies still insist they are Egbado South and Egbado North as listed in the 1999 Constitution, especially when official forms have to be filled with INEC, NIMC, Nigeria Immigration Service, JAMB, among others.

I am using this medium to appeal to the remaining 35 States Legislators to support the change of these two Local Government Areas in Ogun State that concern my Senatorial district and also to support the others alterations like autonomy to Legislative Arms of Government, Local Government autonomy, Judiciary autonomy, Bill number 47, Bill to establish State Security Council and so on.

These are the bills that will give us full democracy and also give full dividend of Democracy when two-thirds States in the federation passed this Mr President will give assent to it immediately and this will nullify court order against the Executive order that Mr President gave and our Governors work against it regards to Legislator, Judiciary and LG autonomy.  The two-thirds is 24 States and I believe by His grace we will get it right this time around.  I want our Governors to understand that having autonomy doesn’t mean will should be fighting the Executive arms of Government but rather to work effectively .

On behalf of our Kabiyesi in Yewa Land under the Paramount ruler of Yewa Land   His Royal Majesty Oba (DR)  (ESV)  Kehinde Gbadewole  Olugbenle,  MFR, FNIM, FNIVS, RSV, FFPI Asade Agunloye IV . Olu of Ilaro, I will like to extend my profound gratitude to all members of NASS in this 9th Assembly and all State Legislators across the Federation for the approval of the change of name of Egbado North and Egbado South to Yewa North and Yewa South respectively and also in anticipation we thank our President Muhammad Buhari, GCFR for his speedy assent by God grace.
